The Chinese Yuan (CNY), also called Renminbi (RMB), is the official currency of mainland China. The symbol ¥ is shared with Japanese Yen, so always check which currency you're dealing with.
Tips for Currency Exchange in China
- ATMs: Usually offer the best exchange rates. Look for Bank of China or ICBC.
- Airport exchange: Convenient but worst rates. Only exchange what you need immediately.
- Mobile payments: Alipay and WeChat Pay now accept international cards - often better than cash!
