Everything You Need to Know About the 240-Hour Transit
What is the 240-Hour Policy?
Replacing the old 72/144-hour policy, eligible travelers from 55 countries can now enter China visa-free for up to 10 days (240 hours). You can enter through any of the 60 designated ports across 24 provinces.
The "A β B β C" Rule
To qualify, you must be in transit to a third country or region.
Valid: USA (A) β Shanghai (B) β Japan (C).
Valid: USA (A) β China (B) β Hong Kong/Macau (C).
Invalid: USA (A) β Shanghai (B) β USA (A) (Round Trip).
Required Documents
- Passport valid for at least 3 months.
- Confirmed onward ticket (seat booked) to a third country/region within 240 hours.
- Visa for the third country (if required).
Important Rules
- Time Limit: The 240-hour clock starts at 00:00 on the day after you arrive.
- Stay Area: You generally must stay within the province of entry (e.g., if you enter Guangzhou, you can travel throughout Guangdong province).
- Registration: If not staying in a hotel, you must register with the police within 24 hours of arrival.
