It's Not Just One Place

"Zhangjiajie" refers to several things:

• Zhangjiajie City — The gateway city
• Zhangjiajie National Forest Park — The main scenic area
• Wulingyuan Scenic Area — UNESCO site containing the park
• Tianmen Mountain — Separate mountain with glass walkways

Most visitors want the National Forest Park (the Avatar mountains) and possibly Tianmen Mountain.

Update: Since November 6, 2025, the upper section of the Tianmen Mountain cableway (middle station to summit) has been closed for a multi-year upgrade. The lower cable car still runs from the city, and routes now combine it with the eco-bus up the 99 Bends road, the Tianmen Cave Express cableway and tunnel escalators. Check the current route options (Lines A, B, C) when you book.
