How to Use Didi in China - English Guide for Foreigners (2025)

What is Didi?

Didi Chuxing (滴滴出行) is China's dominant ride-hailing app - like Uber and Lyft combined. With over 550 million users, it's the go-to transportation app in China. The good news: it works almost exactly like Uber!

Download & Setup

Step 1: Download the App

• iOS: Search "Didi" in App Store (look for the orange icon)
• Android: Search "Didi" in Google Play or download from didi.com

Step 2: Change to English

1. Open Didi
2. Tap the profile icon (bottom right)
3. Tap "Settings" (设置)
4. Tap "Language" (语言)
5. Select "English"

Step 3: Register Your Account

1. Tap "Sign Up"
2. Enter your international phone number
3. Receive and enter SMS verification code
4. Set a password

Step 4: Add Payment Method

Go to Wallet and add:

• International Credit Card - Visa, Mastercard accepted
